UTI is an infection that disrupts a part of the urinary tract because of some bacteria. It can be very painful when urinating. Women, young children and old people are common victims. Usual symptoms include fever, blood in the urine, pain in the abdomen and in the pelvic region, burning feeling during urination and frequent urination.

It can be mild or severe but regardless of the intensity, we should treat it to avoid its recurrence and of course the pain it can bring. If it is left untreated, it may affect other area like our kidneys. We don’t like that so here’s what we need to know about Urinary Tract Infection’s treatment:


See the doctor

If we experience one or all of the symptoms mentioned above, it is best to see the doctor immediately. For mild infections, doctors will prescribe antibiotics that will last for three days to one week. After three days to one week, if there are no significant changes, doctors will suggest serious treatments. Medications that are usually recommended include Amoxicillin, Augmentin, Furadantin, Cipro and many others.

Increase fluid intake

The classic way to beat the infection is by drinking a lot of fluids every day. Water is best but we can also consider teas and other healthy drinks. We should avoid caffeine, alcohol and drinks with high sugar content.

Eat healthy

We should eat healthy so we can effectively battle infections in the body.

Exercise regularly

Exercising is also good because it can strengthen and condition the body. If the body is strong, infections will think twice.

Don’t hold the urine

If we feel urinating, we should get rid of it instantly. We should not wait or hold it because it will attract infection.
