Education here in Singapore is definitely one of the best in the world and it does not come cheap. We do their best to send our kids to school in the hopes of a better future. The bloated price of a bachelor’s degree is nothing compared to the earnings our children will have in the near future.

There is a new study conducted by Center on Education and Workforce of Georgetown University revealing the differences of a high school and college graduate wages. The differences of wages sum up to $1 million. However, not all college majors are equal in terms of wages.

Degrees in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and health field pay higher compared to education and liberal arts. In America, here are the top ten highest-paying college majors:

  • Petroleum engineering: This is by far the highest-paying college major with an average annual income of $136,000.
  • Pharmaceutical sciences: The second on the list with an average of annual income of $113,000.
  • Metallurgical engineering: Though uncommon, this college-major has the potential average annual income of $98,000.
  • Mining and mineral engineering: This college major has the potential average annual income of $97,000.

  • Chemical engineering: This college major has the potential average annual income of $96,000.
  • Electrical engineering: The average annual income of electrical engineering is $93,000.
  • Aerospace engineering: The average annual income of aerospace engineering is $90,000.
  • Mechanical engineering: The average annual income of mechanical engineering is $87,000.
  • Computer engineering: The average annual income of computer engineering is $87,000.
  • Geological and geophysical engineering: The average annual income of geological and geophysical engineering is $87,000.
