Free WiFi to all Singapore North East MRT Lines by 2015

One thing that makes Singapore stand out compared to other Asian countries is it’s free WiFi access. Provided it’s tightly controlled by the government but that is only a small price to pay compared to the convenience that the free wireless Internet connection gives its locals and tourists.

Since one of the Singaporean government’s main goals is to offer great service to its citizens, they make a conscious effort to widen the scope of free WiFi in Singapore. In an effort to fulfill this goal, the government is ensuring that by the end of the year 2015, free wireless Internet connection will soon be available in all North East Line or NEL platforms. In fact, most of Singapore is armed with free and fast WiFi connection. You just have to register and make an account- it’s entirely free.

As of now, only a selected few platforms at three stations are equipped with free WiFi access. These three stations are Bishan, Outram Park and Ghaut. By the first half of 2015, all the platforms to the mentioned three stations will have available free WiFi connection. This report is according to the Land Transport Authority (LTA) of Singapore.

By August of 2014, three other stations- City Hall, Raffles Place and Orchard- have been provided with free wireless Internet access.

Overall, when 2015 ends, a total of 32 stations will have free WiFi access. This includes stations on the East-West and North-South lines namely, Bedok, Ang Mo Kio, Buona Vista, Bukit Batok, Choa Chu Kang, Eunos, Clementi, Khatib, Jurong East, Paya Lebar, Yishun and Sembawang.
